猩猩: an orangutan or a gorilla?
In one of the children books, they use猩猩 to refer to an orangutan. When I type 猩猩 in Google search, the photos of gorilla appear. So, how do you call an orangutan and how do you call a gorilla in Chinese?
Is 猩猩an orangutan and大猩猩a gorilla?

yes, and Chimpanzee =黑猩猩.
Sometimes we also call orangutan 红毛猩猩——that sounds less misleading.

As for me, it's not a question about language but a biological problrm. Most Chinese call this three kinds of animals both as 猩猩or 大猩猩for convinet. We don't consider their differences seriously in our daily life. (*^__^*)  I have to admit that people like me lack of the knowledge about animals.
