Don't tempt me
Does "Don't tempt me" in the following dialogue mean "don't threaten me with my past work"?
Dialogue:
A: If you don't like this job you can go to that garbage you worked in. Suited you well enough before I took you in.
B: Don't tempt me.

The above answer is typically correct; but this particular quote is slightly more subtle - they actually mean don't push me.

When someone says, "Don't tempt me" it means that it is something that they want to do but cannot/should not.
A: "Would you like to eat the rest of the chips?"
B: "Don't tempt me."
Person B wants to eat the chips but knows that they shouldn't because chips are unhealthy. So, really it is a way of saying: "Yes, but I shouldn't".
