Will you help me to understand the usuage of 'Whereabouts' word? Please give some examples.
1. Is it a formal or informal word?
2. How can I use it in my practical life? It would be great if you give some examples.
Thanks in advance

"Whereabouts" is a formal word that generally means "location." It is often used in news and police investigations. It can be used informally, but informal use of this word is rare.
Example: "Can anyone tell me his whereabouts?" means "Can anyone tell me his location?"
Hope this helps!

Yes, we sometimes use 'whereabouts,' instead of 'where.'
So we may say to a person that we have just met, 'so, whereabouts are you from?'

Thanks a lot that you tried to help me. But Mr. Love gave a nice explanation. You can read it that it will also make you understand.

I'm no pro but hope this helps, it's the same thing as "where", like if you say "where is it?" you can also say "Whereabouts is it?". The only difference I can think of is that, "where" is being more specific than "Whereabouts". Whereabouts also sounds a bit more casual.
