avenue or approach
Hi,
I wonder if there's any difference between avenue and approach in the meaning of "a way of getting something done", e.g.
Governments should prioritize the preventive avenue over curative one when allocating budget for preventing future and treating current illnesses.
Actually, the use of "avenue" sounds a bit odd to me but I'm not sure if I can use this word in some academic writings.
Thank you for your help.

Hello Huy. The definition of avenue is a way of approaching a problem or making progress toward something. In this context, or in your academic writing, either word would be appropriate to use.
Keep up the good work building your vocabulary.

You can definitely use "avenue" in academic writings but I would not use it in this sentence.
Governments should explore different "avenues" when deciding how to allocate the budget.
Governments should prioritize the preventative approach over curative one*s*...
