put a bit of line through something
Hey guys, could you please help explain the meaning of "put a bit of line through' in the context below? I guess it means 'to put an end to' or something likewise. Am I right?
Here is the context: The head coach of the All Blacks came out and say it was unusual and bizarre. I think he is not alone in thinking that. Australian rugby union also came out, their chief said it was good to put a bit of line through this, obviously those wild accusations that were going around they were somehow involved. There were still a court case to come on this.

I've never heard this expression. And I can't quite figure it out from the context. Maybe it is an Australian expression? Wish I could be of more help.
