What does the 'eat through 'mean exactly?
Example, the caterpillar ate through apple.
What's the nuance difference between eat and eat through?
Thanks in advance !

The context here is that the caterpillar ate a a little tunnel through the apple, so we get the idea of movement and the ability to move through it.
Hope this makes sense!

Hi, it literally describes the process of erosion or destruction. 'eat through'. Acid can also eat through something or an insect as in your example.
