How do you pronounce CUT?
Pronouncing diversity can be troublesome for English learners who're not in an English speaking community. For example, the vowel /ʌ/ ( the cut u, as the former us presendent Obama pronounces) has a good variety of pronounciations. For the same word, people often pronouce it in all kinds of ways. The 'standard' pronunciation given by dictionaries often is not what you heeard in movies. This really makes learners dizzy.
I saw it at wiki that people of the middle and west US, pronounce all the /ʌ/ sound as current u ( of west us dialects).I'M EAGER TO KNOW IF IT IS TURE.??? I've searched in forvo.com to find that some words have the same /ʌ/ sound there (no current u), cut for one, while some other have different sounds, love for instance. SO PLEASE TELL ME, IS IT TRUE THAT PEOPLE IN THE WEST US, LIKE NATIVES IN SEATTLE or lOS ANGELES, SAY ALL THE /ʌ/ SOUND (as in cut, puppy) AS CURRENT U?

By "current u" do you mean the "u" in the word "current"?
Or do you mean something else?

It carries the sound /ʌ/ and I haven't heard that it has another pronunciation.

I have lived on the US west coast all my life. I use the same 'u' sound in "cut" and "puppy," but pronounce the first syllable of "current" almost exactly like the first syllable of "kernel."

I am from the western US, and they are different sounds. Cut has /ʌ/ and current has [ɝ] as in "her."
