pronunciation of /ər/ followed by vowels Hi all, I'd like to ask some question on the pronunciation of /ər/. When it is followed by vowels, like in "Where is," "Are images" etc., is R separated from /ə/ and added to the following vowel? I mean, is "Where is" pronounced as /weə-Rɪz/, not /weər-ɪz/? I listened to the phrase several times, but I couldn't distinguish by myself for sure. Thank you :)

Hello Sungbin, Very often native speakers will run the last sound into the next one when speaking as it helps with the flow of the speech. English speakers do not sound every syllable equally as many languages do, the only syllables that are usually clear are the 'important' information carrying syllables. Hope this helps Bob

I think this is may vary a lot between regions and individual speakers. I'm an American from the US west coast. I say "where is," "are his," etc. with some deliberate separation of R from the following vowel.
