I think it's called as escort business... maybe hiring a bf or a gf sounds better than hiring an escort bit same as deaf people being turned as hearing impaired. People hiring escort for companionship or to show her up as wife or girlfriend for example in class meetings or important social events to show their peer groups how "succesful" they have been in life or they're hire them for sex...

Hey there, it musn't be possible nobody actually noticed there was a "home" in the question!
Here our friend 浊世纤尘 asked whether renting home to a bf or gf for a new year party is popular (most sense-making meaning), or the same about renting the home of one's bf/gf (less sense in my opinion, but I have to admit none is popular ihere in italy)...
Now answer THIS, please! ;)

Is it by anything means really as popular as by your description?
Honestly speaking, as a member from this particular group myself, I've never seen such phenomenon being popular around me or my friends. There may be some certain cases but I really dont think it as common as you may expected. So basically I cannot even agree with your proposition.
