How do you say "student" in Farsi? Also, any good online dictionaries?
Hello,
How do you say "student" in Farsi? I did google translate and got: دانشجو
However, the online dictionaries I use either could not find that word or said it meant coed. If it makes a difference to the word used I am a medical student.
Along those lines does anyone know of a good online Farsi/English dictionary or even a regular old paper one? I currently a combination of http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/hayyim/ and Google translate.
Thank you for the help!
PS For the word please write it in Farsi with the vowel sounds. No English transliterations/romanization please! I want to practice my reading. Cheers.

Hi Gail,
As Saeed said the equivalent for student would be دانِشجو (for college and university students) or دانِشآموز (for high school or other lower grade students).
So the translation for medical student would be: دانِشجویِ پِزِشکی
For online dictionaries I'd recommend : https://www.vajehyab.com/
or http://dictionary.abadis.ir/dehkhoda/
Also I've heard Farhange Moaser (فَرهَنگِ مُعاصِر) is a good paper one.

دانشجو برای کسی که در دانشگاه تحصیل می کند استفاده می شود صرف نظر از جنسیت و یا رشته و کلمه دانش آموز برای کسی در مدرسه،قبل از دانشگاه، درس می خواند استفاده می شود
DANESHJOO is used for someone that studies at university and DANESH AMOOZ used for someone that studies in school

Dear
Your question is considerable.
Student in farsi =دانش آموز it is used for students before going to the university. After that we say: دانشجو
And it is not merely for adult people
Adult people in institutes, language schools are called : دانشجو even though they didn't, t go to the university because we can say to someone who is thirty دانش آموز it is really impolite way of addressing.
