Specific = something in particular.
Special = something that is not ordinary.
So they are actually really different words ;)

Hi Selina,
When we are referring to something in great detail, we are being "specific" in our description. The antonym of "specific" would be "general".
Examples:
1. This handbook provides specific (detailed) instructions on how to operate the equipment.
2. The CEO beat around the bush but did not provide specific (exact) details on how to steer the company out of the doldrums.
Something "special" has a great significance in our hearts or a special quality that sets it apart from others.
Examples:
1. Though my grandmother has passed on, she will always hold a special place in my heart.
2. This phone has a special facial recognition capability.
In a nutshell, "special" means exceptional in some way while " specific" means having great details and precision.
Hope this helps.
