I perceived nothing but darkness. At first, I thought I was blind, but then I realized that someone had turned off the lights.
I perceived her big stomach, and realized that she was pregnant.
"Perceived" basically means "saw". "Realized" basically means "suddenly understood."

realize is used to indicate that you "understand" or '"deduce" an idea : it's a mind perception.
perceive is used to indicate that you "see" some thing : it's about using your eyes.Your sensors

In Portuguese Perceber means both in English. To perceive is noticing something like all of a sudden, I perceived smoke was coming from the house next door. I could also use realized. It usually has to do with coming from one of your senses like in this case the sense of smell... However Perceive is not used very much in everyday language . I probably have only used it in writing or have read it in a book. Realize is to become aware of or the same thing as perceiver in Portuguese and is used in everyday language or speech.
