Preserve means to "save" or "store"
The Pyramids of Egypt have been preserved very well
Reserve means to "Hold" or "save"
I called the restaurant and reserved a table for us at 8. We then got in at 8, and because of our reservations we sat down right away.
Although both could be a word for SAVE, they do not mean the same kind of SAVE.
reserve could be also like if you have a lake, it could be a water reservoir or a "Reserve of water"
hmmm let me think of another way to explain it.
Reserve is a collection of something, or to save a location for your use in the future.
to preserve is to keep something out of harms way.
The restaurant preserves food to keep it healthy, so people who fulfill their reservations don't get sick.
When you buy food in a can it is usually stored with "Preservatives" to keep it fresh longer.
