When you use 查找，you konw that the things are in a(some) certain place(s) and your are searching for them there; but while using 寻找, you do not definitely know their location, and you do not even know if the things exist, you're only trying to find one or some.

我们一般把查找用在查找资料，查找文件上面，而寻找就是找一件衣服，找双鞋，找本书。查找一般需要一个载体来供你去找，这个载体就可以是文件，书，电脑.....诸如此类，而寻找就没有这个载体要求，你可以丢了东西去寻找，也可以买东西时去寻找商品。（说得可能比较混乱，不知道能不能给你提供帮助）
