ㄹ/을 위해 vs (으)려고

I've heard (으)려고 is a more commonly used grammar used to express '을 위해', which translates to 'for' or 'in order to do something' in English. Is this correct thinking? I've attempted the examples below to try and understand more, and I am wondering what the differences are?

감기 회복을 하려고 약을 먹었어요
감기 회복을 위한 약을 먹었어요

-으려고 is more commonly used in spoken language than -기 위해(서) is due to easy pronunciation.

Both can be used as the meaning of "in order to".
But -으려고 only can be used as the meaning of "be planning to,intend to" with a form of "-으려고 하다"

등산을 가기 위해서 등산복을 샀어요.(O)
등산을 가려고 등산복을 샀어요.(O)

등산을 가려고 해요.(O)
등산을 가기 위해서 해요. (X)

빨리 가려고 택시를 탔습니다.(O)
빨리 가기 위해서 택시를 탔습니다.(O)

빨리 가기 위해서 해요. (X)
빨리 가려고 해요.(O)

유학을 가기 위해서 시험을 봤어요.(O)
