Auxiliary verb need "You need sleep" In this, I wonder whether need is used as an auxiliary verb or an ordinary verb. Since the word sleep can be a verb and a noun, need can be an auxiliary verb and an ordinary verb here?

No. “Need”is an ordinary verb here, not an auxiliary. "Sleep”is a noun answering what you need.

Julie is right. Also, even in the case of 'You needn't bother doing that' (not very common), 'need' is a modal verb, like should or something, not an auxiliary, like 'do'.
