To "censor" something is to remove prohibited material from it.
For example, during World War II, every soldier's letter home was opened and read by censors. If it contained military information about the the soldier's exact location, troop movements, etc., those words would be blacked out.
Most broadcasters have a "standards and practices" department that has rules for what can and can't be aired. For example, bad language may be "bleeped" out by playing a tone over it. The Wikipedia article on the "seven dirty words" has information about this.
Government censorship refers to a situation where any material to be published must first be presented to the government for approval. The government may decide not to allow its publication.
The United States has "freedom of the press." What this means is that in the US you are allowed to publish anything without getting government pre-approval. However, publishing certain things could be illegal and could result in your be punished for publishing it--but only after it had already been published.

Hello there,
Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication, or other information, on the basis that such material is considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or "inconvenient" as determined by a government or private institution, for example, corporate censorship.

Although some criticisms of government policies and the ruling Communist Party are tolerated, censorship of political speech and information, most notably on the Internet,[256][257] are routinely used to prevent collective action.

"Censorship" is when you don't let people see, hear, say, or do certain things. For example, on TV you can't say swear words and they are "censored" from the listener's by removing them from the audio. Censorship of nudity means you can't show a naked body, specifically the genitals or breasts.
