When is "bereits" more appropriate than "schon"?
I have read that in this meaning they are the same (and that "schon" is used more often). But probably it depends on the context.
Could you please give some examples where it's better to use "bereits"?

"Bereits" sounds more formal than "schon". In spoken language I almost never use "bereits", but when writing a formal text, I use it quite often.
