If you are actually trying to find a solution for a certain problem, then you can use: "Figure out a solution."
But, if you are in a conversation with someone and you are curious about something, and wanting to ask a question but don't know how.
Someone may say: "try to figure out a something (a question) to ask your teacher...
If trying to figure out an idea.
You may also use: "Try to figure out something before you run out of time."
Solving a probem?:
Figure it out!
