Take on and lighter edge ....dont understand both words here?
They have a sarcastic (take on) the events and I love their tone. This column makes me see the lighter side of things, and I am able to learn a word or two that allows for (a lighter edge )in conversations.

It's (take) on...events.
A 'take' is something like 'impression of'.  It's the way they think about it.
An edge on a conversation is something like the tone of the conversation, or can possibly suggest the tone is strained or awkward. A lighter edge is less strained, and more relaxed.
