tried and tired Hello! What is the meaning of 'tried and tired' in the context below? "In keeping with their tradition of supreme independence, the Little Rock, Arkansas, band didn’t follow the tried and tired route to becoming a stadium pleaser. Ten years back then 14-year-old Lee and former co-founder Ben Moody paired up and focused their energies on creating a new sound. They decided to go on their own and build their band up slowly and fiercely." Thank you!

I should think the approximate meanings are "tried" - lots of other bands did it before. As in I tried out the software before I bought it. "Tired" - cliched - lack of originality because many bands did it before

I agree with Simon. The usual expression is "tried and true," meaning that something is both familiar (it has been tried many times) and effective (it is "true," or reliable). It's usually a positive way to describe something: a "tried and true" method is a good method that works. The author here has changed the phrase a little, making it negative. The sentence is basically saying that the band did not want to use a method that was both familiar/commonplace ("tried") and boring/unoriginal ("tired").

I'm sure they mean that it's foolproof. It's saying that the band is not doing things the way that everyone does it. I'm sorry if I couldn't explain it well.

Hello. I think they just didn't go for the "usual" way, they followed another ways to become what they wanted.
