"Overlap" means to cover something partly. For example, "a lot of Spanish vocabulary overlaps with English vocabulary, such as the words 'problema' and 'problem'". These words overlap because they are similar. However, they do not "match" perfectly.
"Overlap" is not interchangeable with "match". "Match" means to replicate something exactly. For example, (English) "no" and (Spanish) "no" match each other. This is also an example of overlap between the languages. When something overlaps something, it generally means it shares similarity with that thing. It may also match, but it does not have to, hence "problema" vs "problem".
Other examples:
"Some techniques in boxing overlap with techniques in tennis in regard to moving the hips and shoulders to generate power".
"Some business concepts overlap with economics concepts".
Hope this made sense!

Pick up a pen and paper, and draw two circles covering a part on each other. We can say two circles overlap.
We can apply this to understand our concepts reached by reasoning; two concepts overlap.

Hello!
"overlap" is when part of something covers a part of another or when something extends over the same time as something else.
It is dependent on the context - for example,
"If the responsibilities of two or more people or organizations overlap, there are some things for which they share responsibility"
or
"The times of the presentations overlapped so I had to choose which one I would rather attend."
I hope that helps!
