I got a quesion in this sentence. If this word is used properly here, according to the fact.
Sentence :
Anti-malaria drugs work by keeping the parasite from neutralizing a toxic byproduct of digestion.
Whether the word "neutralizing" is proper here or not?
I think "neutralizing " should be replaced by the word "releasing" , because parasite is harmful for people and it can release some toxic byproduct of digestions. so, does that sentence express the opposite idea? according to this sentence the parasite can neutralize the toxic byproduct of digestions and the anti-malaria drugs would help stop parasite neuralizing the toxic substance, which is against the fact.

Hi 辉
The parasites are plasmodia which, on entering the bloodstream, migrate to the liver and start to reproduce before invading red blood cells. I am not a virologist so this is a guess, but I suspect that the plasmodium has to do something there to prevent the liver from flushing it from the blood. If this is the case, then the sentence is correct, as the byproduct of digestion is toxic to the parasite and it has to be neutralized for the parasite to survive.

Neutralising refers to the ability of antibodies to block the site(s) on bacteria or viruses that they use to enter their target cell. An anti-malaria drug is a neutralizing antibody.
I think the sentence is incorrect.
It should be read as :
"Anti-malaria drugs work by neutralizing a toxic which is produced as a byproduct of digestion from a malaria parasite."
A parasite is not harmful until it releases a toxic substance and this toxic substance needs to be neutralised.
