"mount" can also be used as a noun, in which case it would mean the horse itself.
"I halted my mount to rest for a while."
It can also mean to equip and start a military action. "The English mounted an attack at first daylight."
It can also mean to put a stuffed animal or fish on a plate or plaque as a prize.
"He had the fish he caught mounted and put it on his wall."
"mounting" can be a the present perfect form of "mount"; it can also be a noun meaning the frame or support of something being displayed.

They are many different definitions behind the word mount/mounting. Here are a few examples though:
- To mount: to get on the back of. ex. I mounted my horse. In this context, it can also be used sexually as in "the man mounted..."
- To attach, generally for support. ex. I mounted the microscope to the desk.
- Before a name ex. Mount Royal
I hope a few of my examples help!
