Australia comes from Terra Australis, "The Southern Land". "Queensland" is fairly self-explanatory.

Canada comes from the Wendat word "Kanata" which roughly means "village". When the first explorers came, the natives who lived here showed them the way to their village and referred to it as Kanata, the explorers mistakenly used the word to refer to the whole country.

The United States of America was named so because we are states that united during the revolution to make a country..Why America? Because there was a cartographer, Amerigo Vespucci, who first put America on a map and named it after himself.
