"Spill the beans" is a much older and widely understood phrase, and it's the phrase from which I believe "spill the tea" comes from. I've never heard anyone use "spill the tea" offline, I only know of the phrase in reference to YouTube drama channels. I'm pretty sure they mean the same thing.

I’m a native English speaker and I’ve never heard anyone say ‘spill the tea’. That may be because we worship tea so much here that nobody ever spills it! :D People still often say ‘spill the beans’, or you could now say ‘come on, spill it’.

I wouldn't say so! Spill the beans has the same meaning however it is an older phrase and has been used longer than spill the tea. Older people might say spill the beans whereas younger people who grew up with the internet might say spill the tea. Hope this helps!

“Spill the beans” means to divulge a secret, or confess to something. It has connotations of betraying the trust of others. I’ve never heard “spill the tea”. I’m from the US, not sure If this is a UK expression or not.

I’m from the USA and nobody ever says spill the tea here, so I would forget about spill the tea. spill the beans is common but is more of an old expression.
