I came across this funny video on 88rising's YouTube channel. In this video, four girls in school uniforms pop out of nowhere and start dancing weirdly to a weird chant in front of a school. That was...surreal. 🤔   오늘 88rising의 유튜브 채널에서 우연히 재미난 영상을 보게 되었다. 영상에서는 네 명의 여자애들이 갑자기 튀어나와서 이상한 구호에 이상한 춤을 추기 시작함...뭐지…? 🤔   Just when I was about to skip to the next video because I didn’t feel like watching this TikTok type of video, the girls started talking: “In Japan, unlike the U.S., students are not allowed to drive to schools.” Afterward, they talk about “uwabaki,” indoor shoes that students wear inside a school. Next, they describe how female students are required to wear below-the-knee skirts at school.  틱톡 영상 같은 건가 보다 하고 스킵하려는 순간 영상 속 여자애들이 말을 하기 시작하는데, “일본에서는 미국과는 달리 학생들이 학교로 운전해 갈 수 없다!”던가, 학생들은 학교내에서 우와바키라는 실내화를 신어야 한다던가, 여학생들은 치마가 무릎 아래까지 덮어야 한다던가 말해준다. Turns out, this video is not a weird TikTok video but rather an informative clip about Japanese schools featuring the performance group Atarashiii Gakko!. I thought people from other countries, especially from Western countries, would find this video really interesting. (88rising also recently uploaded a video of Atarashiii Gakko! teaching New Year’s Eve traditions in Japan. It’s pretty good as well.) 알고 보니, 이 이상한 영상은 틱톡 같은 단순 재미를 위한 영상이라기보다 Atarashiii Gakko!라는 퍼포먼스 그룹이 일본의 문화에 대해 재밌게 설명해주는 유익한 영상이었다. 특히나 서구권 사람들이 재밌어할 만한 느낌이었다. (88rising은 최근에 Atarashiii Gakko!가 일본의 새해를 맞이하는 전통에 대해서 얘기하는 영상도 업로드했는데, 이것도 굉장히 유익하다.) I didn’t search for these videos, but I'm glad that I watched them. I felt like I learned a thing or two from these weird gals.
