It was stormy today, and at noon, the rain cascaded down like a waterfall, scary. During recess, I decided to practice a technique my teacher had shown me - making the 'woo' sound to evoke the feeling of yawning while speaking. Perchance some people do speak while yawning, but I've never done so. It felt strange, and I was definitely appearing a weirdo to others. Now, everyone knows I am taking singing lessons. Despite this, my mom has high expectations for me, and I am determined not to disappoint her.

It was stormy today, and at noon, the rain cascaded down like a waterfall. [Putting scary on its own here doesn't work, as it's unclear what the adjective is modifying. You have to either have another full sentence like, "It was scary." Or "It frightened me." Or put the word earlier on and make it an adjective, "The rain cascaded down, scarily like a waterfall."] During recess, I decided to practice a technique my teacher had shown me: making the 'woo' sound to evoke the feeling of yawning, while speaking.
Maybe [perchance is no longer a common word and is generally only found in antique, pre 19th century texts. It's also used for comedic effect, because it's so old it sounds silly in a modern context] some people do speak while yawning, but I've never done so. It felt
strange, and I definitely looked like a weirdo to others. Now everyone knows
I am taking singing lessons. Despite this, [despite what? The fact that you take singing lessons? Clarify] my mom has high expectations for me,
and I am determined not to disappoint her.

Not sure how to say woo and talk at the same time!
