the same number of/the same amount of days' holiday
I came across this question in one of the IELTS listening P1 sections.
The question reads:
Trainees receive the same amount of _________ as permanent staff.
In the transcript the speaker said "you get the same number of days' holiday as everyone else".
According to my knowledge, "amount" is used to work with uncountable nouns whereas "number" goes with countable noun. So why can the word "amount" be used here?

Hi Malcolm,
As an IELTS teacher, I've noticed some problems in the listening section too.
Your explanation is completely accurate. Amount cannot be the right answer.

You can't have "an amount" of days, but you can have "an amount" of time.
