I called my mother and I was feeling down because I cried while I was talking her. She was worried about me.
I replaced "so" by "and" at the beginning of your sentence because the way you wrote it meant that just the fact of calling your mother let you feeling down. You were feeling down because she was worried about you, not just because she called you. Hope you’ve manage to reassure to mother and that you’ll have more cheerful conversations in the future.
