Hi Chris! It is easy to understand the difference by making a picture in your mind. When you hear the word “give,” imagine a person offering someone a present. When you hear the word “take,” imagine the other person accepting that present. The giver is offering, and the taker is receiving. I hope this helps!

La diferencia está entre "dar" y "tomar o recibir" "I will give you back your phone" "I will give back what I stole." o "I will take back the bicycle I loaned you." "They will take back the land that was stolen from them." Aunque a veces decimos "take back" para expresar devolver algo a donde pertenece, por ejemplo, para traer un libro de vuelta a la biblioteca. "I need to take back this library book."

John gave back the book to Tim. Tim took back the book from John.

Give back could mean to give back to the community or the less fortunate so to do your part to help or assist the less fortunate or those who are worse off than you or to do something for a worthy cause, do something selfless and to take back would be literal, so when you make use of "take back" you are literally taking back something, anything or something that belongs to you. Happy learning 😀

Think about the difference between give and take. Give me back my phone! I need to take my phone back to the shop.
