When 'hope' is followed by a noun phrase [ a better future] you need the preposition 'for' : (to) hope for sthg. In this sentence hope is itself a noun. If hope is followed by a verb you don't need 'for' : ’. . captured the world's attention and their hope to see a better future’ '. . captured the attention of people who hope they will see a better future.’
