Nací en los Países Bajos, pero también crecí en Bélgica y América. A los dieciocho años me trasladé a China para estudiar artes marciales y, once años más tarde, me convertí en maestro de esgrima chino. Me encanta la aventura y he viajado más de 80000 km, a las zonas más remotas del sur de China, en moto y documentado los viajes mediante la fotografía, también haciendo trekking por selvas y cuevas. Me gusta ver películas, sobre todo de ciencia ficción, acción y terror. Me especialicé en ciencias en una universidad estadounidense y me encanta hablar largo y tendido sobre temas científicos. Los idiomas son otra de mis pasiones y actualmente estoy aprendiendo español para disfrutar de mi nueva vida en España.Mostrar idioma original
Yo como profesor
Llevo más de una década dedicándome a la enseñanza. Fui profesora de idiomas en China durante diez de los once años que viví allí (¡y líder de un viaje de aventura durante uno!) y también he estado enseñando en línea durante más de tres años. Mis alumnos han sido desde niños de guardería hasta adultos profesionales. He vivido y trabajado en Guilin, Chongqing y Jiamusi y he desarrollado un profundo conocimiento de la gente y la cultura del país, aunque disfruto aprendiendo sobre todas las culturas. Después de dejar China, trabajé un año en las fuerzas del orden y volví a la universidad para estudiar Ciencias Ambientales, pero volví a la enseñanza porque la echaba de menos. Soy una profesora divertida pero seria que presta mucha atención a los detalles. Mido mi éxito como profesor por el éxito de mis alumnos. Hablo con claridad y enseño a mis alumnos a hablar con claridad, centrándome mucho en la pronunciación y las habilidades comunicativas. Leemos artículos, escribimos composiciones cortas y hacemos presentaciones para un enfoque más específico del aprendizaje. Me encontrarás una persona muy sociable, interesada en una amplia gama de temas que podemos discutir. Cambio mi estilo de enseñanza para adaptarme a las necesidades de mis alumnos y encontrar material relacionado con sus intereses o profesión. Maarten has been helping me improve my Dutch from an absolute beginner level to being able to hold a conversation in Dutch. Due to his adventurous life, he has lots of stories to tell, which can be quite entertaining. He is always punctual and prepared and we never run out of things to talk about.
Surely one of the best teachers on Italki!
