Marlén G

I have met 15 tutors on Italki and been working regularly with about 7 of them. While I am extremely grateful to all of them, Marlén stands out. As a conversationalist, Marlén is the one with whom I feel the most comfortable (a downside is that now I'm more "fluent" when talking with her than with other people). As I progressed further, we got to talk about literature. Only then did I realize that she is a master of the Spanish language and Hispanic literature (pun intended - she does have a master's), not just an "equis", run-of-the-mill native speaker. Over the past year, we have read about 30 short stories together. I appreciate the time that she spends outside of the class, though admittedly she reads faster than I do :). We also talk about subtleties of the language and mistakes that native speakers make, and her explanations never disappoint me. I'm sure that she can cater to all your needs, be it grammar, structured lesson or conversation.

It's been about a year and a half since I've started my lessons with Marlén and I hope to continue learning Spanish with her!! She's always so kind and patient and we laugh so much. It's a delight to talk with her. She is simply the best. :) I'm thankful that I found Marlén on italki!

Marlén and I had a very lively discussion about a short story she had assigned. She provided supportive and useful grammatical feedback on my writing as well as during our conversation, and I learned some new Mexican Spanish idioms as well! Marlén is a wonderful Spanish tutor that I've had the honor of working with over the past year. Marlén is such a dedicated and engaging teacher. Our package of five lessons has flown by. I have learned so much about Mexican literature and culture, and have felt so very comfortable conversing with her. I am positive that I will sign up for more lessons with her in the future. She is a gem.

Her questions kept the conversation flowing, and I actually found myself thinking more deeply about the story than I do when I read in English! Not only is it an opportunity to have a meaty conversation in Spanish, but I'm also learning about Mexican literature.
