I've been taking lessons with Sam for about 3 months, he's helped me to make substantial progress in my Japanese, and I always look forwards to my lessons with him. He's helped me correct many bad habits I had picked up, and explains concepts in an easy to understand way, drawing on his experience both as a teacher and a language learner. I will be continuing my lessons with Sam, and recommending him to friends that wish to start studying Japanese more. Thanks Sam!

I’m just beginning to learn Japanese and Sam was very helpful in grounding my expectations in reality. This first trial session was less focused on the nuances, and syntax of the Japanese language, and more focused on how and what I should study between sessions. Prior to the session I had memorized each hiragana character and some of their variations. Sam helped answer my questions regarding the pronunciation of these characters and also the formation of certain words and sounds. Overall he was a joy to talk to. I can’t wait to begin learning grammar. Thank you so much Sam!

Sam is a great teacher who keeps the lessons fun while taking the learning aspect seriously. He explains not just how things work but why, which really helps me with understanding things. Not being a native speaker further reinforces this, as he understands the perspective of the student much more for it. Notably, he will always give you things to talk about when, or while, you're not able to come up with anything yourself (yet). I can feel my own improvement and it doesn't feel like a chore to take these lessons at all, which is what keeps me here. Highly recommend.

As usual, everything is great

This was a great first class of dedicated tutoring for Russian speakers like me with Sam! Even though Russian is my main language, I know English very well so he found it out in the class. He knows Russian very well, another thing is that he gives feedback about speaking that other teachers don't pay attention to. He found out my weak areas of speaking such as lubricators that help connect the sentences and word fillers and useful phrases to express your experience. He helped me by giving useful pieces of advice on how to sound more natural and fluent in English. He asked me additional questions about my experience with practicing English, my goals and my expectations. He shared stories about English mistakes made by Russian students like me which is great because I'm not alone. Nice class and I hope to see him again soon! That was superb!
