Mearg Belay

I loved my first lesson! He was very encouraging and supportive. It was very fun and I left the class feeling like I really was learning something. I look forward to the next class! 😊

For me, Tigrinya verbs are the hardest challenge, since the conjugations require a lot of practice, and the complete structure of sentences involves the use of auxiliary verbs (translated as "to be"), that are non-existent in my mother tongue. Mearg's method is based on gradual and patient exposure to the complicated verb system. I appreciate that so much !! 🙏🙏

Fantastic lesson about vocabulary, covering essential aspects of etymology, pluralization, dialects, correct usage, gender-related confusions, and tips for daily practicing.  Can't wait for next week's lesson !!!

Some things are not taught in grammar books, e.g., the nuances of pronunciation that may convey totally different meanings; Variance between older, more official forms of verb conjugations, as opposed to modern usage. I had the privilege of studying these issues today, along with planning a strategy to prepare flashcards for daily repetition. Now I'm all excited to do my homework 🙏🙏 Thanks for all the guidance !!!

Today's lesson focused on several word categories, some of which were presented in previous lessons, so as to allow gradual exposure to a large, rich vocabulary. Thank you Mearg for including some cultural aspects, that provide the broader understanding of Tigrinya - it's really like a guided tour to the Horn of Africa !!
