Chill Chiu

I’ve taken Cantonese lessons with Chill for the past 9 months. We use Mandarin to Cantonese laddering for the lessons, which works well for me. I’m able to hold basic conversations now. We usually do some general chatting, then follow a textbook and go over vocab, dialogues, and grammar. Chill is patient and encouraging! I recommend her to other students, especially if you want to learn Cantonese after mandarin.

Me and Chill 老师 have found the perfect learning technique for me. The first half of the lesson we chat, talk and catch up about our week. We talk about video’s I’ve watched and Chinese tv shows. I provide screenshots of subtitles of grammar structures/ characters I’m not familiar with and Chill will translate and give other example sentences of how to use the specific character. My listening and conversational Mandarin has improved drastically. I find I can eavesdrop on Chinese conversations outdoors now and understand the majority! Second half of the lesson we open the HSK books and go through the lessons in there. It keeps up with my reading and every HSK lesson we learn a new grammar structure. I’ve even tried a couple other Mandarin teachers on italki but for me Chill 老师 is the best. I’m so grateful I found Chill at the start of my Mandarin journey. Chill has helped my son who is in the 8th grade with reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary. He looks forward to her lessons weekly. He is doing well his Chinese class because of Chill's tutoring.

Very structured way of teaching and great encouragement to practice. I loved the trial session with Chill as she makes you excited to continue learning Cantonese.
