Duc Tran

I am an American-born Vietnamese who never learned nói tiếng việt despite having immigrant parents, but I am returning to my roots as an adult. I came across Duck's iTalki profile a few years ago, and something about his biography resonated with me. After a few lessons, I not only gained a new teacher but also a friend. I think the world of him. Although, I will admit: Duck was really tough on me! I felt like his lessons were very challenging, and I was struggling to meet his expectations. I took a three year break after entering motherhood, and I returned to Vietnamese this year. I was thrilled Duck was willing to be my tutor again. He surprised me, recalling what we previously learned and shared together as if it were yesterday. I can tell that he's grown as a teacher during my hiatus, and I am excited to see how I'll grow as his student. This time, I feel like I can take his challenges head on. Duck is an excellent tutor for any American heritage speaker, and I highly recommend him.

As an experienced language learner and teacher, Duck is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had! We really have many in common and after one week he challenged me to translate sentences from Vietnamese into English and vice versa, and even to read Shakespeare's philosophy , which we succeeded together. This is mind-blowing and so motivating at the same time. :) cảm ơn anh!

Duc made me feel at ease while giving a quick overview of the language. In this first lesson, he didn't go deep into details, so I didn't feel overwhelmed. After introducing the tones and pronunciation, he introduced grammar with jumbled sentences, asking me to guess the word order and then showing and explaining the answer. I like this approach. He prepared the lesson in advance and then sent me the notes after the lesson. I'll continue learning with him.

It’s so motivating to study with Đức! I love his creativeness and friendly attitude. Every lesson is so unique and you will get a load of interesting and practical information. Everything is explained very precisely and the exercices help you to understand it very quickly. The way he leads his lessons is truly outstanding. I couldn’t be happier that I chose Đức as my teacher. 🤗 Thank you for making my journey of studying Vietnamese so fun!

Duc is a really good teacher. It was only our third session, and he was already training me for conversation beyond greetings.

Duc has been very patient, and kind towards me as we go through these lessons. He makes sure I'm able to understand the concept before moving forward with the next part of the lesson. He's very personable, so it has been quite fun learning with him. I'm excited to learn more of the language, as well as learn about many aspects of Vietnamese culture.
