I am a passionate language learner and teacher, deeply fascinated by the way languages connect us to the world, its diverse cultures, and the people within them. For me, languages are bridges that open doors to new opportunities, both professionally and personally.
With nearly 20 years of experience teaching private English lessons to local immigrants, I’ve had the privilege of helping many students gain confidence, unlock career advancements, and build meaningful connections in their new communities.
I have experience in tech, science and marketing and enjoy learning about virtually everything. I'm also an author and love to talk about writing and storytelling.Mostrar traducción

I have a university degree in Linguistics, with a specialty in Second Language Acquisition, and a minor in Spanish. As a teacher, I believe that speaking (and making mistakes!) is the best way to make progress in learning a language. After all, talking with people in English is the goal, right?
For some people, speaking might not be the main goal, and if that's you, send me a message and tell me what your goals are, and I will create an approach based on your goals.
For students 12 and under, please contact me BEFORE scheduling the first lesson.
If you cancel a class with less than 24 hours notice, you still need to pay. You are preventing another student from using that time.Mis clases y método de enseñanza
It's important to talk, and it's okay to make mistakes. The more mistakes you make, the faster you will learn! Our lessons will be conversation based most of the time, even when we are focusing on certain grammar or vocabulary.
I have a set of courses (beginner to advanced) that can guide you if you prefer a more structured environment. If you have materials (from school, or another resource you want to use), we can work with that. I don't normally give homework unless a students wants it.
Everything we do will be designed for you, tailored to your level, your goals, and your interests. Let's make your learning journey fun!

TEFL Certification - International TEFL Academy, Chicago IL, USA - 2021This is 150 hour certification course with 20 hours of practicum (student teaching) included. I have completed 13 hours so far, and will complete the rest by the end of March.
(The attached PDF shows my final project and final course grade, the very bottom shows that I am logged in as myself, Kerrie Vanderlugt. As I haven't finished the practicum, I don't have the certificate quite yet. I will be finished with the practicum teaching hours before the end of March.)
