Ruth

Wie immer war es schön, eine Sprachstunde mit Ruth zu haben. Es gefällt mir, dass wir oft über aktuelle Ereignisse ins Gespräch kommen. Ich lerne bei jedem Gespräch etwas Neues. Danke Ruth!

Another excellent lesson with Ruth discussing the use of alternatives to "weil". We looked at "aufgrund", "wegen", "deswegen" and "deshalb" in the context of discussing why people voted for AfD in Thüringen and Saxony. Ruth gives me plenty of opportunities to speak German and listen.

Ein tolles Gespräch! Wir haben uns zusammen kurze Videos über aktuelle Themen in Deutschland angeschaut. Anschließend haben wir darüber diskutiert. Um das Gespräch in Gang zu halten, stellte Ruth viele interessante Fragen, die zum Nachdenken anregten. Ich habe viel gelernt und viel geredet. Ich freue mich schon auf unser nächstes Gespräch!

Another great lesson with Ruth. We were able to have a conversation about my day and then discussed the lyrics of a song by the German band "Die Ärtze". Ruth tries to get me to work out the meaning of words that I do not know. This usually works and it is fun trying to work out the meaning of new words. Although we did not do so today, Ruth often gets me to watch and listen to videos. Beforehand, she will give me a few questions that I need to try and answer after watching and listening. This is good practice for trying to understand what is being said by German speakers who are not trying to speak to learners.

We looked at two film clips giving two different perspectives on the Red Army Faction and discussed the differences between the two films and their perspectives. This gave me ample opportunity to speak German and learn some new vocabulary. Ruth has challenged me to discuss some event from British history on which commentators have taken different perspectives. This will be a challenge indeed to do in German. As always, Ruth's lessons are good fun.
