Jayashree has rapidly transformed my Kannada from close to absolute zero to beginning to form and understand sentences in different tenses and moods within a handful of sessions. This has been a particular relief, as the resources available for Kannada as an English speaker are not nearly as rich as with many other languages. She's encouraging and, despite her extensive experience in teaching, still has patience for the numerous questions of a curious beginner. I look forward to continuing my Kannada journey with her.

Another interesting class with Jayashee studying a poem (kavana/kavita) in Kannada, great vocabulary learnt from it that I will try to memorize. I love how Jayashree clarifies the spelling of Kannada words and helps providing clear explanations when I am confused with very similar words, with patience. She is also very encouraging when I get the translation of a word right 😊 Thank you so much Teacher!

Fantastic class again with Jayashree after some time, great to catch up in Kannada, I love her way of teacher all the small nuances of the language, and how it is used by local people. She leaves her students the space to try using new ways of saying things (even when it ends up being a little messy 😊) and she gives the corrections and clarifications for them to hopefully do better next time. Having fun anyway speaking in Kannada, even when I sometimes have to translate a word or two from Hindi (my Hindi teachers complain that I have more Kannada words coming to my head when speaking Hindi so 50/50). This is a delightful language and I can’t have enough of it, and learning about all the little secrets it has to offer !

Jayashree has such a compassionate way of teaching. I feel that even if I don't study outside of class (which is usually the case for me, due to lack of time or focus on other languages) she kindly and patiently will give me the words I need to construct sentences in class, so that we can converse about something in Kannada. Also I am always so impressed about Jayashree's excellent command of the english language, as well as of Kannada itself. She is clearly highly literate and well-read, it even inspires me to read more again :)

As usual another great lesson with ಜಯಶ್ರೀ-ಅವರೇ. We went through 2 more pages of ಘಾಚರ್ ಘೋಚರ್. She is patient despite me forgetting words I have learned before 😅. She really knows the history of any Kannada word. For example, she explained how ಈಸು is an old Kannada word for ಈಜು, and gave an idiom containing ಈಸು. She knows in which regions certain Kannada words are used. For example, ಪಧಾರ್ಥ (a prepared food) is primarily used in South Kendra. As someone highly interested in both etymology and sociolinguistics, this stuff is just as interesting as the book is. I look forward to meeting with her every week : ).
