Nota: Actualmente ofrezco clases de 6am-8am & 4:30pm-6:30pm los lunes. Trabajo a tiempo completo fuera de iTalki así que tengo poca flexibilidad fuera de esto.
Me encantan los idiomas / la lingüística. Mis idiomas:
1. Swahili (fluido)
2. Chichewa (fluido - viví en Malawi durante 3 años, y mi esposa es una hablante nativa, así que tengo un montón de práctica)
3. Español (competente - no lo he usado mucho últimamente así que he olvidado bastante)
4. 4. Amhárico (competente: viví casi un año en Etiopía y lo aprendí. El amárico es, en mi opinión, el idioma más difícil que he estudiado)
5. Ruso (básico - lo estudié en la escuela de posgrado pero no lo he usado desde entonces)

Yo como profesor
Llevo 10 años enseñando inglés, dentro y fuera de Estados Unidos. Principalmente tengo experiencia enseñando a refugiados en EE.UU. (sobre todo de forma individual) y pasé 2 años enseñando inglés a estudiantes de secundaria en Malawi, una pequeña nación sin salida al mar en el sur de África. Tengo una certificación TEFL en inglés y una certificación LPI (OPI) de la ACTFL en chichewa. Creo que en la enseñanza hay sitio para nativos y no nativos. INGLÉS: Trato la mayoría de las lecciones más como conversaciones. Tomo notas mientras hablamos y las comparto con usted en un documento de Word después de la lección para que pueda aprender lo que ha hecho bien y lo que todavía necesita mejorar. Suelo organizar por temas gramaticales, problemas de pronunciación y nuevo vocabulario aprendido. No doy correcciones durante la lección a menos que el alumno lo solicite. Adapto cada lección a cada estudiante y aprenderemos a su ritmo y nivel de comodidad.
CHICHEWA: Utilizo un estilo de lección diferente, mucho más estructurado (con PowerPoints) que puede encontrar en la descripción de la lección de Chichewa. Todas mis lecciones de chichewa han sido revisadas por un hablante nativo para asegurar su exactitud.Mi material didáctico

3+/3+ ILR Certificate - International Center for Language Studies (ICLS) - 2021Intensive full-time immersive course in Swahili in preparation for a job in East Africa. For five months, I spoke exclusively in Swahili for 5 hours a day with a one-on-one tutor, and used another 3 hours for daily self-study. I achieved a 3+/3+ which is higher than the required level to use the language in a professional setting for the company I worked for at the time.

LPI Certificate in Chichewa - Superior - Peace Corps Malawi - 2019An extended oral interview which contained random and unexpected bits of small talk, along with a difficult scenario question surrounding an abstract topic. My scenario was to describe in detail how gender roles differed in the United States and Malawi, whether this was good or bad, and how the country should go about resolving negative aspects related to these gender norms. I scored a Superior, the highest possible score on the Peace Corps version of the ACTFL ranking system.

I can recommend Austin 1000%. I had 11 Chichewa lessons with him, and I loved his lessons and the flexibility in accommodating to what I needed. I requested to learn from Chichewa conversations, thus we did this. At the end of a lesson he had always written down the words/grammar I missed in a google doc, super effective to learn from. He is also very reliable and responsive: always there, and multiple times he put additional effort in creating extra time slots for me when he had run out.
