Helen Pavlik

Helen is always patient and a great teacher. She adapts the lessons according to my ability to learn and retain information. She is precise and picks topics that are of interest to me and makes learning fun.

I know everybody says that their teacher is great but Helen actually is. I’ve had around 20 teachers in person and on italki (for Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian). Helen is the most effective and prepared with custom presentations, roadmaps to learning, interesting media, and science based teaching techniques to reinforce learning (such as repetition and circling back to topics with increasingly difficult context). Helen is also great to interact with. She doesn’t watch the clock and speak to you as a stranger but engages like an old friend. She also deals kindly with my failures to do homework, remember classes and refusals to do hard exercises.

Enjoyable lesson. No stress. Fun

I tried to learn Russian on my own and made little progress. So I started looking for teachers. What caught my attention with Helen was her passion for teaching and how thoroughly she explains concepts. I started taking lessons with her in May and I’m already worlds ahead of where I was. I didn’t realize how complex the Russian case system is and there are multiple ways of saying the same word but you have to change it depending on the context. Helen breaks these systems down into small, manageable chunks. She genuinely cares about her students. She pays attention to what you have trouble with and addresses it in a kind and non-judgemental way. I always look forward to lessons because of how fun and interesting they are. She is a truly exceptional teacher. Helen is the best choice if you want a teacher who provides a solid structure to your learning, if you aren’t getting far learning Russian in other places, and if you want to seriously tackle learning this language.
