Travelling by Bus, Train and Auto | Spoken Malayalam #097
Description
English speakers "buy" a ticket and "get off" a bus, so they translate those verbs word by word and end up saying something a Kerala conductor has to think about. In Malayalam you "take" a ticket, you "climb into" a bus and you "climb down" from it, and the same verb root changes slightly when someone else drops you off. This episode gives you the bus stand, the train station and the auto rickshaw: asking where a bus goes, getting a seat, telling the conductor you are getting off, and agreeing a fair price with an auto driver without sounding rude.
In this episode:
• Getting on and getting off
• At the bus stand
• Seats and stops
• At the train station
• The auto rickshaw
• Language bridge
• Practice
• Self-check questions with answers
