Enseignant professionnelIn Spanish, the gerund (-ando / -iendo) is used to express an ongoing action, similar to the English -ing form.
However, it cannot be used as a noun or adjective, unlike English.
✅ Main uses
1. Actions in progress
Estoy estudiando. → I am studying.
2. Simultaneous actions
Entró cantando. → He entered singing.
3. Manner (how something happens)
Aprendí español viajando. → I learned Spanish by traveling.
4. Describing cause or consequence
Perdió el tren llegando tarde. → He missed the train because he arrived late.
❌ Incorrect uses (false English equivalents)
You cannot use the gerund as a subject or noun:
❌ Fumar es malo → Smoking is bad
(But in Spanish you must use the infinitive: Fumar es malo.)
You cannot use it as an adjective:
❌ La mujer conduciendo → The woman driving
(Correct: La mujer que está conduciendo.)

Vi a Juan corriendo por el parque.
La persona hablando es mi hermana.
