"Strain" makes no sense, and doesn't seem to fit the rhyme. Maybe the word is "stray" (to wander off with no particular aim); Portuguese and English treat nasal finals very differently.

Strain is another word for job. There is no other job/work/ livelihood available.

What I believe may be the issue here is a loss of translation from the Japanese artists, it's probably meant to be stray.
