Though this seems quite different from teaching a language, it was, in fact, excellent preparation for my career as an English teacher. Learning correct pronunciation involves learning unfamiliar movements. It is much more a physical skill than an academic exercise. To achieve fluency in speaking, one cannot carefully think about each word or phrase --- words and phrases must be automatic. To learn to speak automatically, one must practice regularly and diligently. I prefer to correct a student's mistakes immediately so that s/he is more likely to remember the correct usage.
