I used to drown my students in freer practice because that's how I had learned the language myself. little by little I realized controlled practices aren't all that useless if we direct them properly. However, my experience with international students has taught me that there is a limit to objectivity and impersonal curiosity. Language learning cannot take place unless connection is made and that, was where I had to practice the art of task-design in order to integrate cultural, societal and personal elements.
