I think that "He had not written" is a posterior action. Could you explain why it's not possible to write the following way? He didn't write a line since he had arrived.

It is a long summer holiday for all children in Vietnam. My daughter will have more time to take care of her hamster. The hamster is very cute except for its bitting people's fingers sometimes when they annoy it to much. I think hamster can litterally be a good friend, just like a human being.
