Hello! Welcome to Italki! Did you know that each community tutor and professional teacher on Italki is different? Not every tutor and teacher helps teach kids. Not every tutor and teacher helps with professional business English. Not every tutor and teacher helps with test prep. Not every tutor and teacher helps students at every single language level. Each tutor and teacher you encounter on Italki has a different way of helping and different things they can help with. It's not a one size fits all type of thing. There's so much variety on Italki. The best advice I can give you from being a tutor myself on Italki for 7 years is to read a tutor or teachers profile completely before booking a lesson with them. Learn as much as you can about them before booking their class. Also if you're looking for free language exchange the best way to find that is going to the community section on Italki and looking for other posts that mention free language exchange. If you message a tutor or teacher on Italki chances are they will not help you for free.

What do you struggle with the most in regards to speaking American English with native English speakers? Is it coming up with words to say? It's pronouncing them clearly so your listener can fully understand? Is it saying enough so you don't sound limited or be able to give enough variety in your responses so you don't sound repetitive? Is it phrasal verbs? Do you use them? Do you understand them? Do you know how many there are? What about your confidence? Do you second guess yourself when you speak English? Do you have a lot of 'ums' and 'uhs' when you speak American English? Do you repeat words and phrases? Do you have long pauses in between your words and phrases? Do you translate in your head before you say it? Do you depend on translating? Do you say the bare minimum which is only the few things you know how to say but if someone asks you to 'say more.' you'd have difficulty? Are you not really sure where you struggle? Maybe you think it's a lack of vocabulary but really it's not. Maybe you think it's sentence structure but maybe in reality it's really not. Have you ever had someone from the United States... a tutor or teacher really judge your speaking and give you feedback?
